TITLE OF THE PROJECT: Boosting the circular bioeconomy: obtaining bioplastics from almond shells in the Tarragona area

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT:

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT:

- Prepare and functionalize new mesoporous carbons from different biomass fractions. Study of the effect of the microwaves irradiation on the synthesis.

- Characterize the catalysts prepared using different techniques: X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, nitrogen physisorption, and scanning and transmission electron microscopy.

- Obtain levulinic acid from the 5-hydroxymethylfurfural obtained from biomass (almond shells) containing cellulose using the synthesized acid catalysts.
