Title of the project: Catalytic valorization of biomass wastes to obtain chemicals with applications as biofuels, fertilizer, bioplastic precursor and sensors

The main objective of this consortium formed by researchers of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Universitat de Lleida, and the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia is to achieve a wide portfolio of high-added value products (biofuels, bioplastics, bioadhesives, fertilizers, pressure and pH sensors) obtained from lignocellulosic biomass wood wastes using different technologies for the approach, with the aim to contribute to the development of biorefineries in Spain.
The project is in line with the specific objective of ecological transition "Transition to Circular Economy" → reducing waste generation and carbon footprint → whole use of the biomass wastes → circular bioeconomy. Additionally, this project also contributes to the objective "Mitigation to climate change" since biomass is projected to play a key role in meeting global climate targets, and to the objective "Pollution prevention and control" considering the valorization of wood wastes.
